Since 2016, THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU GMBH has been commissioned to sink two freezing shafts for the world’s leading potash producer PAO Ural Kali in Solikamsk (Perm region, Russia). The project is one of the most technically demanding shaft construction projects in potash mining and is being carried out under challenging geological and climatic conditions. Shaft sinking is performed using the ground-freezing method to depths of approximately 470 meters with a diameter of around 8 m.

The work includes not only the actual sinking operations but also the mechanical outfitting, including the installation of shaft hoisting systems. Particular attention has been given to the precise execution of the freezing boreholes and quality assurance throughout all phases. Despite its complexity, the project is progressing according to plan and highlights the international capability of THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU in the field of ultra-deep shafts.
