Exploration drilling Zielitz

Ausführungsort

Projektbeschreibung

On behalf of K+S Kali und Salz GmbH, THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU GmbH has been carrying out underground exploration drilling at the Zielitz potash mine since May 2008. The objective is the geological investigation of the Staßfurt (K2H) and Ronnenberg (K3RoSy) potash seams.

Both vertical wireline core drilling and horizontal drilling using the counterflush method are employed. The latter are executed from various chambers in up to four directions, reaching lengths of up to 2,500 meters.

The drilling strategy allows for multiple intersections of the potash seams through targeted directional deflection—approximately every 400 meters. In addition, precise pre-exploration of planned roadway alignments is conducted, including the first-ever planned crossing of an anhydrite cliff.

Naturally occurring gas or brine inflows have been safely controlled and permanently sealed. By 2019, a total of 22 vertical and 116 horizontal boreholes had been completed, with a combined length exceeding 117,000 meters.
