On behalf of Debswana Diamond Company, THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU, in cooperation with Geosearch Botswana, carried out a vertical exploration drilling in the Jwaneng open-pit mine— the world’s richest diamond deposit— from November 2017 to November 2018. The objective was the exploration and geotechnical evaluation of the kimberlite pipes in preparation for future underground mining. The drilling operations included a 1,600 m deep main borehole as well as two deviated boreholes using the rotary core drilling method with a core diameter of 102 mm. Despite complex geological conditions, an exceptional core recovery rate of 98–100% on average was achieved— a clear indicator of the precise execution and technical expertise of THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU.
